Dayne Barber:
A Journey of Art, Growth, and Gratitude
Hi there!
I'm Dayne, and I'm proud to be a Tattoo Artist with a journey that's filled with passion, mentorship, and gratitude. My artistic venture into the world of tattoos began back in 2014 when I embarked on an unforgettable apprenticeship under the guidance of the late Stuart Randell at Sacred Tattoos in Fremantle, Western Australia.
Stu was an "old school" Tattoo Artist who believed in the traditional way of mentoring apprentices, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have learned under his tutelage. His approach was "Tough but Fair," and he instilled in me the value of doing right by him, and he would reciprocate in kind. This strong foundation laid the groundwork for my journey as a tattoo artist.
Early into my apprenticeship, Stu trusted me to start tattooing on skin, allowing me to learn the fundamentals of tattooing hands-on. It was an unpaid apprenticeship, and I was determined to hustle and earn my place by building my own clientele.
About three years into my apprenticeship, life took a challenging turn when Stu was diagnosed with cancer. Despite the tough battle, he continued to guide me until, unfortunately, he passed away. Months before his passing, he signed me off from my apprenticeship, and I became a full-time qualified tattoo artist, thanks to the knowledge and fundamentals Stu imparted upon me.
However, I knew that there was still much more to learn in this ever-evolving industry. After Stu's passing, I decided to move south to West Coast Tattoos in Mandurah, where I spent over five years working alongside amazing artists like @emmajeantattoos and @brady_lutey_wct. The experiences at West Coast Tattoos shaped me as an artist, and I will cherish the memories and lessons I learned there.
In early 2023, my journey took me to YoungBloods Tattoo in Rockingham, Western Australia, where I had the pleasure of collaborating with talented artists like @jacksonmay_tattooist, @twoshirtztattoo, @keeganblairtattoo, and many more. It was a rewarding time filled with artistic growth and camaraderie.
As fate would have it, YoungBloods Tattoo acquired ownership of Good Times Tattoo in Medina, Western Australia. It was here that I found my new home, and at the time of writing this, I'm grateful to be working here full-time.
With nearly a decade in this incredible industry, I have experienced both ups and downs, learning and growing with each step. Now, I am at a stage in my career where I aim to establish myself even further within the wider tattoo community. It's a journey I embrace with passion and dedication.
None of this would be possible without the amazing clients who continuously place their trust in me to create their tattoos. To all of you, I am forever grateful and honored to be a part of your tattooing journey. If you're reading this and happen to be one of my clients, please know that your support is deeply appreciated.
